Design guide
re-bar is placed in the Sika concrete repair mortar or embedded in the groove. Only the tested Sika mortars (R3 and R4 mortars for structural repairs) are authorised for use. A rigid bond is assumed for design.
re-plate is considered an external prestressed tensile strip without bond. A conservative design approach only considers the re-plate prestressing without an additional stress increase. Alternatively, a formula can be used for slender bending slabs to estimate the increase in stress in the re-plate up to the ultimate limit state.
If all relevant product specifications of the manufacturer (geometries, minimum strengths etc.) and standard specifications (concrete roughness etc.) are complied with, conventional rules of structural design for reinforced and prestressed concrete structures can be applied. A design aid is intended to show the engineer some basic principles and design examples for the memory®-steel strengthening solutions.
Design with cross-section analysis software |
Standard software for cross-section analysis can be used. The material parameters for memory®-steel are introduced manually. Assistance can be found in the design aid (PDF).
Seismic strengthening of masonry |
Thanks to the anchoring of re-bar in the concrete slabs (floor/ceiling), a controlled vertical force (compression) is applied to the masonry. This increases the bending and shear load-bearing capacity of the masonry (see e.g. SIA 266 4.3.2).
