Flexural strengthening of a reinforced concrete girder in an office building
Description
In the framework of a renovation in an office building, two beams had to be completely drilled through during a renovation. First, the holes were filled with a cement-based R4 grout and the two prestressed reinforced concrete beams with a flange width of 115 mm were strengthened in bending. Due to the small dimensions of the existing structure, the usual anchoring by means of a Hilti direct fastening system (nails) had to be abandoned and changed to a supporting steel shoe (U-shape) designed for this purpose. The re-plate strips were upfront welded to a steel shoe. It should be emphasised in this case that the re-plate method made it possible to prestress the concrete beam in a very confined space (crawl space).
