Horizontal prestressed wall reinforcement, Credit Suisse Horgen Oberdorf
Description
A new wall opening had to be made for a building extension. In this cantilevered area, the concrete wall absorbs high vertical forces and transfers them horizontally to a restrained, supported area. There is now less space available for the load transfer and the wall has to be reinforced.
Application description
Cut grooves were made in the concrete before breaking through the wall in order to place memory®-steel re-bar in it. The bars were fitted with end hooks on both sides to anchor them in drilled holes. After the adhesive had cured, the middle part of re-bar was heated/prestressed and embedded in mortar. The anchor adhesive is temporarily protected during heating and is not directly exposed to flame/heat.
Thanks to this local and active load-bearing reinforcement, the wall can absorb and safely transfer all loads without any noticeable additional deformation.
