Reinforcement of a parking garage slab in the shopping centre Zugerland
Description
The shopping centre Zugerland was renovated. An important concrete slab above the parking garage had to be strengthened. With the planned new use of this ceiling area, insufficient resistances were found for the serviceability (cracks, deflections, excessive stress in the internal reinforcement) as well as for the ultimate load.
Application description
1. Relieve the slab: To counteract existing deflections, the slab was first lifted by means of hydraulic presses.
2. Prestress of the slab: The critical slab areas were roughened hydromechanically and a layer of B500 steel as well as re-bar 16 bars were installed in both directions. The rebars were laterally bonded into drilled holes with Sika AnchorFix®-3030. re-bar was heated and post-tensioned using electrical voltage. The electrical resistive heating allowed to significantly accelerate the prestressing of the large number of re-bars. The flexural reinforcement was embedded in Sika Monotop®-422 PCC spray mortar, which further increased the stiffness of the slab.
3. Additional flexural strengthening: The strengthening measure was supplemented with the application of Sika® CarboDur® lamellas.
The solution with memory®-steel represents an efficient structural reinforcement in the area of car parks. Currently, many existing parking garages are in an inadequate condition and require strengthening measures. In the future, the increased weight of electric cars will also increase the focus on checking the stability of multi-storey car parks. Here, the systems with memory-steel in combination with Sika products offer excellent solutions for static strengthening.
