Reinforcing concrete girder after core drilling, Hospital Baden
Description
A concrete beam was hit by an incorrectly placed core drilling. Prestressing wires and the internal steel reinforcement was damaged. To compensate for the tension members, re-bar was used.
The hole at the core drilling was filled with mortar and the underside of the beam was roughened. In a new mortar layer, re-bar was used as prestressed tension reinforcement. In the end areas the bars protruded so that after hardening of the mortar (test with concrete hammer) they could be heated with electricity. For temperature control, a sensor was mortared in beforehand. Strips of SikaWrap®-231 C carbon fibre fabric were bonded to the outside as additional shear reinforcement and to improve the bond between mortar and concrete subbase.
