Re-Fer

Description
Due to damage to a concrete beam of the shed roof in the Gras theatre (Nijmegen, Netherlands), a structural reinforcement was necessary.

Part of the damaged tensile reinforcement had to be replaced and a diagonal shear crack to be repaired.

Application description

The load carrying capacity in bending and shear of the structure was increased by installing new tensile reinforcements (conventional structural steel) and memory^®-steel re-bar 10 stirrups.

For this purpose, the girder was temporarily secured, the old concrete hydromechanically removed and the substrate roughened. After installation, the new bars, were embedded in a Sika grouting mortar. The end parts of the re-bar stirrups point out of the cured mortar to be electrically heated. Here it is important to well insulate the memory^®-steel electrically from the conventional steel reinforcement (with special re-fer plastic clips). Sensors were attached to re-bar to monitor the heating temperature.
