Underground parking ceiling
Description
An old ceiling made of reinforced concrete with inserted hollow cores was in need of structural strengthening. Due to new requirements, excessive deformations and deficits in bending resistance became apparent. The decision was made in favour of a combination of prestressed re-plate strips (for service and fire loads) and slack applied CFRP laminates (for remaining ultimate loads).
The concrete surface was sandblasted to prepare the substrate. re-plate 120/1.5 memory®-steel strips were evenly distributed and provided with corrosion protection. Sika® CarboDur® S CFRP laminates were applied in between. Only re-plate is required to absorb the fire loads; therefore, a cost-efficient fire protection spray plaster SikaCem® Pyrocoat can be used.
Advantages:
- Clever use of all reinforcement methods, fire protection only necessary for re-plate
- Evenly distributed prestressing / no large, localized force application necessary
- Cost-effective fire protection with low layer thickness
- Active bending reinforcement (after activation at a similar stress level as existing reinforcement)
