Prestressing of a reinforced concrete foundation

Baden AG, Switzerland

Description
Due to high vertical loads on a reinforced concrete foundation, a prestressed reinforcement is necessary in order to reduce splitting forces and related crack development. Strengthening on vertical and inclined surfaces was performed with memory®-steel re-bars inserted in cut grooves. The bars were end-anchored over approximately 500 mm at each end in a Sika FastFix®-121 mortar, allowing for an activation/prestressing only two days later. Activation was performed with a gas torch until a minimum temperature of 250°C was reached. Eventually, the free length between the anchorage zones was filled with a Sika MonoTop® 412 Eco reprofiling mortar.

re-fer Product
In total, 12 memory®-steel re-bars with a length of 5.25 m were anchored in a Sika FastFix®-121, anchored, and the grooves filled with Sika MonoTop® 412 Eco cementitious mortar over the free length.
