Innovation memory®-steel strengthening solutions

Increasing the service life

The ribbed memory®-steel re-bar is applied to the structure in Sika concrete repair mortar and prestressed when heated. re-bar carries loads immediately after cooling and actively supports the structure by releasing stresses in the existing construction. The Sika repair mortar is used to replace old, damaged concrete. The Sika mortar layer restores the alkalinity (corrosion protection) and provides protection in the event of fire. Thanks to the active prestressing less deflection and subsequent crack opening are to be expected, stresses in concrete and the internal reinforcement are released. The force is transferred to the intact core concrete of the existing building. Find out more

Robust bending or shear strengthening with re-bar increases the service life of a load-bearing structure. Stresses in the steel reinforcement in the existing structure are actively reduced.

Ductile strengthening with memory®-steel

Thanks to the high material ductility of >20%, failure in bending is governed by concrete crushing in the compression zone. Force redistribution and optimum use of the load-bearing system are still possible after reinforcement and prestressing (σP) with memory®-steel. memory®-steel is therefore especially suitable for earthquake reinforcements. The reinforcement of masonry is also possible. Learn more

Active load-bearing bending strengthening

In addition to re-bar, the memory®-steel strip re-plate is also suitable for smaller reinforcement work. The prestressing force is transferred via a mechanical end anchorage. This easy-to-install strengthening measure can be prestressed within a few minutes. A corrosion protection (Macropoxy® EG-1 Plus, formerly SikaCor® EG-1 Plus and Sikaflex® PRO-3 Purform) is then applied afterwards. Learn more

Iron-based shape-memory alloy

Shape memory alloys (SMA) return to their original shape after a pre-elongation upon heat supply. memory®-steel remembers its original shape due to the «martensite to austenite» crystal structure transformation.
